Design, evaluation and implementation of sustainable policies and measures that drive sector transformation and support the successful transition to sustainable low carbon energy systems.
Addressing the climate challenge requires sector-specific solutions. To achieve the 2/1.5°C limit, the low-carbon transformation of the energy sector is particularly important. This in turn requires effective policies which allow for the widespread application, investment and use of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures. Although the transition to clean energy creates multiple benefits for societies, it is still a challenge for many governments to change existing systems and practices.
To support this transformation, NewClimate Institute supports the design, evaluation and implementation of sustainable energy policies and measures. We have particular expertise in designing renewable energy and energy efficiency policies across different technologies and sectors, developing effective approaches and strategies for technology transfer, and evaluating the impact and effectiveness of different policies and measures. Examples of our work include supporting the development of the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) of Lebanon, the design of renewable energy policies and incentive schemes in Peru as well as the evaluation of the activities of Agora, an organisation supporting the German energy transition (Energiewende).
Mercator Foundation and the European Climate Foundation commissioned NewClimate Institute to comprehensively evaluate Agora Energiewende, an initiative to support the German energy transition.
