As the annual UNFCCC Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB64) runs from 8-18 June, our team will be in Bonn contributing to key discussions and sharing new insights. Reach out to our experts on the ground: Dr. Niklas Höhne (all topics, 8-18 June), Dr. Louise Jeffery (Climate Action Tracker, sectoral decarbonisation, 9-10 June), Dr. Janna Hoppe (Climate Action Tracker, mitigation by national governments, June 11-12), Hanna Fekete (just energy transition, mitigation by national governments, 8, 12 June), Chetna Hareesh Kumar (diplomacy, just energy transition, 10, 12 June), Pablo Blasco Ladrero (industry, plastics and electrification, 8-9, 11 June).

Below are details of our engagements during the conference.

[Side Event] From global benchmarks to national pathways: advancing equitable climate solutions

At this in-person side event on climate mitigation, our expert Pablo Blasco Ladrero, together with a multi-regional team of experts, will discuss how global climate ambition can be translated into equitable and implementable national emissions pathways that reflect differing development priorities and national circumstances. The discussions will focus on our recent work on wind and solar benchmarks that connect global mitigation benchmarks with country-level application and insights from the Scenario Compass Initiative.

[Launch] Climate Action Tracker briefing

The current energy crisis once again put energy security at the centre of geopolitical tensions. In this press conference, the Climate Action Tracker team will present a new briefing examining which responses to the energy crisis support or hinder the energy transition.

[Workshop] From ambition to action: aligning equity, finance and climate pathways towards 1.5°C

At this NEWPATHWAYS Global Stakeholder Workshop II (in-person and online), our expert Dr. Janna Hoppe will join a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss how countries can advance the goals of the Paris Agreement through transition pathways that are equitable, financially viable and grounded in national contexts. Discussions will explore the alignment of global and national climate pathways, the integration of equity and finance considerations into mitigation strategies and approaches to addressing key challenges such as overshoot and carbon dioxide removal.

  • Date/location: 12 June, 13:30-19:00 CEST, Bonn
  • Relevant work: As part of the NEWPATHWAYS project, we will publish a series of factsheets on climate initiatives this summer, followed by an analysis of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) later in the year.

We look forward to connecting with partners, negotiators and stakeholders throughout the conference.
