At this press conference we will release the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2025.

This joint UNFCCC and UNEP event features high-level opening remarks from the UNEP Executive Director and the UNFCCC Executive Secretary and a presentation of the key findings of the UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2024. This will be followed by a panel discussion on what we need from the next round of nationally determined contributions (NDCs), and how we can speed up climate action and implementation this decade.

In this side event, co-organised by NewClimate Institute and E3G, we will examine the scale of financing required for a just transition in the power sector, using Mexico—where reliance on unabated fossil gas is significant—as a case study. The session will also explore the challenges development banks face in providing transition finance and their role in innovative solutions, such as country platforms, to scale up financing and improve coordination among key stakeholders. This side event will show through storytelling and expert discussion how to operationalise commitments to transition away from fossil fuel exploration and production in a just and orderly manner via third generation NDCs.

This side event will discuss the global net zero status, reflecting on the UNSG’s Net Zero Progress report, with a focus on subnational governments.
