Differentiated analysis of collective progress and national courses of action following the Global Stocktake
Together with Öko Institute and Wuppertal Institute, NewClimate Institute supported the Global Stocktake (GST) process taking place between 2021 and 2023. In this project, we informed Parties in enhancing their own mitigation efforts in line with the long-term mitigation goals of the Paris Agreement. To accomplish that, we:
- analysed submissions and compiled overviews of the issues relevant to the process on Subsidiary Bodies (SB) and Conferences of the Parties (COP);
- prepared a series of analyses of collective progress using a performance distribution approach, which presented anonymised country information in a graphical format and was made available in an online tool; and
- identified ways in which the results of the GST could inform ambition raising at the national level, in particular the subsequent NDC update processes and the formulation of long-term strategies.
This project was part of the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA) supervised research project “Support for the first Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement”.
