A new international climate agreement was finalised in 2015. It entered into force in 2020 and includes - besides other aspects such as finance and adaptation- mitigation commitments for all countries.

Under a consortium of NewClimate Institute, Ecofys, Wuppertal Institut, Climate Analytics, Öko-Institut and Fraunhofer ISI, this project analysed options for mitigation commitments under the agreement. In the course of the three year project, the team closely followed negotiations and research related to the topic, and conducted own calculations with the objective to determine potential fair and ambitious emission reduction commitments for a range of countries.
