NewClimate Institute in partnership with HEAT International supported the IKI funded Cool Contributions initiative led by the GIZ with the objective to advance the global transformation towards climate-friendly and energy-efficient refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) technologies.

The project aimed to strengthen the cooperation among various international initiatives under the Montreal Protocol and UNFCCC processes and to provide guidance to reduce overlap and harmonise support mechanisms. Six developing countries, including Costa Rica, Cuba, Grenada, Iran, Philippines, Viet Nam, were supported with policy and technical advice on the further development and implementation of energy efficient RAC policies in particular with a view to include these in the countries’ Nationally Determined contributions (NDCs).

In addition to in country support the project aimed to support efforts towards a harmonised international agreement for the phase down of HFC and the implementation of F-Gas policies outside of Europe and to reduce overlaps and parallel structures between different international initiatives. The work of NewClimate Institute focusses in particular on NDCs and linking to UNFCCC processes and activities.
