Climate Policy Database

The Climate Policy Database is a collaborative effort to track policy adoption and identify global and national policy coverage gaps. We identify, categorise and analyse mitigation-relevant policies to support national ambition raising efforts.

Raising the ambition of action against climate change is urgent. Countries adopt a wide range of climate and energy policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The number and coverage of climate change mitigation policies have increased dramatically in the past twenty years, but important policy adoption gaps and inconsistencies remain. Widespread adoption of existing policy options would advance keeping global warming below 2°C by the end of the century.

NewClimate Institute analyses which major emitting countries adopt climate policies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The database contains comprehensive policy data information for G20 countries. Other major emitting economies as also well covered. The database website provides a number of “policy options,” that form a comprehensive policy package to mitigation GHG emissions. This package covers all policies that can potentially lead to emissions reductions.

The database is available at climatepolicydatabase.org.
