Since 2010, UNEP synthesises information on the gap between current trend in greenhouse gas emissions and where they would have to be in order to stabilise global temperature increase below internationally agreed levels. Today the Emissions Gap Report series is one of the flagship publications of UNEP.
NewClimate Institute staff contributed to all annual editions of the UNEP emissions gap report. The Climate Action Tracker and the PBL climate policy modelling projects serve as key data sources to the Emissions Gap Report series. NewClimate Institute staff led a publication in Nature on years of estimating the emissions gap.
The UNEP emissions gap report is the standard annual report on global climate action, its 2019 version for example had 270,000 downloads.
