The Supporting the Paris Agreement (SPA) project aims to meaningfully support partner countries in achieving their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and advancing their Long-Term Strategies (LTSs).

Through this project, NewClimate Institute provides technical guidance on the development and implementation of NDCs and LTSs through scientific analysis, practical guidance and capacity building, integrated into country-level processes. NewClimate also analyses countries' energy and emissions profiles, assesses the ambition of existing targets, including identifying key entry points for raising ambition, and examines international and bilateral cooperation plans.

Examples of work under this project include capacity building for modelling sectoral emissions reduction targets for Mongolia's NDC 3.0, as well as support for the development of Argentina's NDC 3.0 from an equity and ambition perspective. As part of the SPA project, NewClimate has also assessed climate policies across multiple geographies, including Indonesia, China, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and runs for approximately two years, from the end of 2023 to early 2026.
