In this project for the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), NewClimate Institute developed benchmarks for potential Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) for more than 40 countries. The data and qualitative information serves GIZ as an input to supporting countries in the development of INDCs. The output of the project is a recommendation on the target type and on the level of ambition for each of the countries, and an overview of historic and projected emissions and socio-economic data. Results from a large number of studies on effort sharing provide an indication of a fair level of ambition of the countries. Further, for half of the countries, additional qualitative considerations on sectors illustrate promising opportunities to combine current national priorities with the INDC.
