Climate Transparency was an open global consortium with a shared mission to stimulate a ‘race to the top’ in climate action through enhanced transparency. To achieve this, it disseminated comprehensive, comparable, and credible information on government climate action by bringing together key actors involved in assessing and communicating progress, aimed at informing influencers and decision-makers.
The Climate Transparency consortium produced the Brown to Green Report annually, offering a comprehensive overview of G20 countries’ progress in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Drawing on the latest emissions data, the report covered over 80 indicators across decarbonisation, climate policies, finance, and vulnerability to climate impacts. By providing country ratings, it identified leaders and laggards within the G20. Additionally, country profiles were developed for each G20 member. In 2019, Climate Transparency compiled 14 “Ambition Calls” with concrete recommendations to support more ambitious climate action in advance of the Climate Ambition Summit held on 23 September 2019 in New York.
