NewClimate Institute supported the Peruvian government to develop a NAMA proposal in the frame of Peru’s renewable energy and climate change strategy in order to obtain international support for its implementation. The objective of the NAMA is to promote the scaling up of waste-to-energy technologies in the Peruvian agricultural sector to contribute to rural sustainable development and to global climate change mitigation. The NAMA seeks to facilitate private sector access to capital - in particular targeting farmers and agro-industries - to enable investments in renewable energy technologies, mainly for self-supply purposes. Overall, the NAMA seeks to promote the establishment of a waste-to-energy services and technology market in Peru and to build associated capacities among key stakeholders. The project was undertaken as part of the Mitigation Momentum project led by Ecofys and the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) and financed by the International Climate Initiative of the German government.
