More and more companies are racing to outdo each other with green promises to achieve net zero emissions. But what is behind these promises? Journalists and consumers alike are often out of their depth when it comes to distinguishing ambition from greenwashing. Evaluating net zero targets is a complicated business, with pitfalls galore. News outlet Clean Energy Wire (CLEW) worked with journalists and experts from around the world to uncover methodologies, approaches and stories about corporate climate claims, an initiative led by correspondent Sören Amelang.

During this workshop we will hear from Sören Amelang and Sybrig Smit (NewClimate Institute) with whom CLEW created a 7-step guide for journalists to unravel a net zero target. The workshop will reflect on lessons learned, with practical tips that reporters can use immediately to unpick a net zero target.

Organised in association with Clean Energy Wire. This workshop will take place at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia (Italy). The workshop will be live-streamed.
