This side event, organised by UNEP and UNEP-CCC, featured technical presentations on the key findings of the Emissions Gap Report 2024, followed by a panel discussion focusing on the following three critical questions:

  1. How are countries progressing towards their climate mitigation commitments and what are the global trends?
  2. What ambition levels will be needed from groups of countries in their next NDCs to maintain the possibility of limiting global warming to well below 2°C and preferably 1.5°C?
  3. Are these ambition levels feasible, and what are the key opportunities to accelerate climate action now and as part of the next NDCs?

Presenters and panelists included lead authors and steering committee members of the Emissions Gap Report, including NewClimate Institute's Takeshi Kuramochi.
