Sebastian Sterl joined the NewClimate Institute team in July 2015 as Climate Policy Analyst. He is currently involved in projects related to assessing and tracking international (state and non-state) climate action and sectoral decarbonisation, with a strong focus on quantitative data analysis. He is a member of the Climate Action Tracker team, where his main contributions include the modeling of sectoral emissions scenarios and maintaining the CAT Data Portal.
He holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Applied Physics with a minor degree in Sustainable Development from the University of Twente (Enschede, the Netherlands). During his studies, he was involved in various theoretical, numerical and practical research projects in fields such as aerodynamics, atmospheric physics, and turbulence. He also spent time abroad in India and Ghana as field researcher on rural electrification and renewable microgrids, and in China as data analyst.
